I have always wondered what I would write a blog on and then with the help of my class, I knew. How could I have not thought of this before? Education. I am passionate about teaching others and to be quite frank with you, I have always loved teaching others. From playing school with my sister to tutoring in high school, all the way to where I am now- an elementary education major at Northern Kentucky University.
I am currently a junior who has attended three universities- University of Louisville (Go CARDS!), Eastern Kentucky University and Northern Kentucky University- and I have switched my major to every major in the book. If there is one thing you can conclude from that it is that I love my family and I love my small town. I hated being away from my family and my small town where everyone knows everyone. I like life. No. I love life. I am the person who loves walking into the Dollar General (which I am there everyday) and knowing everyone.
My love for my family and small town has made me 100% sure that I am meant to be a teacher. My Moma is a special education teacher and has taught me more about education than I could ever learn at a university. Everyone in my town has known I was going to be a teacher and knew I would come back to teach in my county. All in all my love of teaching came from watching my Moma be the most compassionate teacher and seeing how much she changed those kids lives. I hope to be half of the teacher my Moma is to her students!
Blogging can have such a huge benefit on your students. In my classroom I plan on having a blog. At the end of every week I hope to communicate all the topics we covered with helpful links that students can use if they needed a little extra help but were too embarrassed to ask. This will allow students to also use the blog as a study resource when they know they have a test coming up. The blog could also be used for parents to keep in touch with what their child is learning in my classroom. Instead of asking their child what they learned that day, they will already know!
Writing a blog is more than an educational tool. Writing a blog can be a resource that the students can use later on in life. I have always founded myself on helping my students with things beyond the state testing. I want to help my students with life skills. I believe teaching students how to write a blog will teach them how to communicate with their words, how to form their thoughts, and how to organize their thoughts. If my students can communicate via a blog, then that is a check mark in my book!
As a future teacher I have found many websites that will help students learn. ReadWorks is a resource that any teacher grades K-12 can use. It is common core driven, broken into grade levels and broken down into different story elements and topics that deal with reading. This is so useful for any teacher or parent because it allows you to be able to differentiate in your classroom and help your child progress even more!
